Have you ever misunderstood someones intent? I know I have. Someone will say or do something meant to help or encourage me, but I take it the wrong way and miss a real opportunity to be helped.
In my upcoming series, I suggest this is precisely what we often do with the Ten Commandments of God. Unfortunately, a lot of us view these instructions from God as a set of restrictive "rules and regulations" designed to limit us and take away our freedoms. Nothing could be further from the truth! In actuality, they are some of the most wonderful gifts God ever gives us! How is that?
God wants you to have the most wonderful life possible. He also knows there are some emotional and relational "landmines" out there that, if we venture into them, create all kinds of pain, turmoil and hardships. We could avoid a lot of unnecessary pain if we stay clear of those areas. That's what the Commandments are all about; God's effort to point out the "danger zones" and keep us from stumbling into them. If we truly understood God's intent in sharing them, we wouldn't run from them...we would make them the focal points of our life!
Our new series begins Sunday, January 23rd. I hope you will make a commitment to be in worship each week. I'm convinced the things we will be discussing will be of huge significance to you personally. Also...this would be a great time to join one of our Grow Groups! Each week the groups spend time reflecting on the message and topic from Sunday. For information about these groups, check out the link on the church website!
