UNBELIEVABLE WEEKEND!!!!
Sometimes I have to think long and hard about what to write in my blog. Not this week! This past weekend's "From Hunger to Hope" event was truly amazing! Here is the bottom line...between Friday and Sunday afternoon we prepared and packed 328,536 meals to be sent to starving children in Haiti! That means that 900 children will be fed for an entire year because of the love and generosity of Sugarloaf UMC! By partnering with "Feed My Starving Children" and help from volunteers throughout the community, we have literally saved lives and given hope to families in that part of the world. Not only did we do that, we collected over 1000 items of food to be distributed to local food banks in the community!
There are way too many people to thank but I want to at least mention the people most responsible for the weekend. Tami McLaughlin is our Director of Beyond the Walls Ministry here are Sugarloaf. Coordinating the efforts of our Volunteers was Kiersten Greeff and Lara Mann. They did an incredible job in planning and recruiting for this event!
Thanks as well to our Youth who participated in the 30 Hour Famine and, who along with Congregational Care and Sugarloaf Kids, planned an amazing walk through "Journey From Hunger to Hope" as part of the experience! You helped us learn so much! Special thanks as well to the Worship Arts Team who moved our worship service from the sanctuary to the Fair Grounds!
The Gwinnett Daily Post has written a great article with photos of the event which you can find on their website www.gwinnettdailypost.com Look for the article called "Filled with Love"
Thanks to all the members of the church and community who made this possible!
It is a blessing to be part of this church body!
