It's About SERVING!

Two Sundays ago I shared with you a new initiative God has laid on my heart.  It has to do with intentionally claiming our identity as "servants" and living that out in our neighborhoods,  schools and community.  One of Jesus' last instructional acts with the disciples was to wash their feet.  After this powerful demonstration of humility and service he looked at them and said, "Do you understand what I have done for you?"  He was wanting to help them understand how to reach their world with the Gospel.  We wanted them to have the best chance to succeed in attracting new converts to the faith.  So what does he do?  Give them religious tracts to distribute up and down the street? NO!  Give them an outline to a sermon to preach to large crowds? NO!  He washes their feet!  He models for them an act of serving!  And then he says, "I have given you an example of what I want you to do!"  Jesus knew that the best way to reach people in that day, and TODAY is to serve them!  That, more than anything else will get their attention, cause them to want to know more about matters of faith, God and Christ.
I am currently looking for people who would like to help launch this new initiative here at Sugarloaf.  The plan is to identify needs in our community (schools, clubs, etc.) and say "How Can We Help?"  My hope is that we can create such a "Culture of Serving" here at Sugarloaf that we just instinctively look for ways to serve people around us.  I envision a time when Sugarloaf is known throughout this community as that church that is always showing up to serve people!
If you would like to know more or think you might have an interest in helping craft this new focus, I would love to hear from you!  You can email me at sgreene@sugarloaf.org

Till next time...
